The book was written by Ma Jing xian, the winner of Taiwan's National Award for Art, where he paraphrased 16 old fantasy stories from the Tang dynasty for primary school children, which then were compiled and published by Mandarin Daily. I made two illustrations with different sizes, which have been displayed in the book, for each of those stories.
The illustrations mainly consist of 5 colors used frequently in the Tang dynasty arts, such as handicrafts and grotto art. Another feature in the Tang dynasty arts I used is “Wu dai dang feng”, describing a sense of people’s sleeves and belts flowing like wind. Therefore, the arrangement of characters presents not only the story context, but also the dynamical sense via in a deliberate posture.
本書為適齡小學兒童的白話讀物。由台灣國家文藝獎得主馬景賢老師，挑選、改寫中國唐傳奇，並經過國語日報匯編而成。我為這 16 則故事，分別繪製大小各一的插畫，穿插於書頁。
挑選的故事採自唐代，彼時工藝、石窟藝術的色感強烈、斑斕，且水墨作品具有「金碧山水」的特點，因此我設定了 5 種相近於當時常用的色彩，貫穿本系列。而談論唐藝術時，尚有「吳帶當風」為繪畫特色的吳道子，人物的兩袖、衣帶經常如風飄逸，所以系列作的畫面，除了著重表現故事文本的戲劇性，也將人物停固在動感張力的瞬間，呼應前述特徵。
